Rock Climbing 101-Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing

Foundation Level Course

ShortoffThis is hands down our most popular course! The two day course is ideal for people wanting to learn the foundational skills to set up top ropes and begin climbing rock by themselves. This course teaches the solid set of skills needed to get out and start rock climbing and is a mix of ground school lessons along with lots of actual rock climbing!

We cover everything from climbing movement and correct belaying techniques to creating top rope set ups and anchors to climbing equipment selection, use and storage. This course is also a great foundation for participants who wish to move onto our more in depth Rock Climbing 201 and specialized Intermediate Level Courses such as the Single Pitch Rescue and Lead Climbing Courses.

As with all our programs the course will be based from our headquarters in Pisgah Forest, NC (unless otherwise arranged). This will give access to our classroom and workshop, equipped with digital projector for PowerPoint presentations, ‘gear placement rock wall’ in the workshop, WiFi, and climbing library. It’s a perfect environment for lectures at the start and end of the day and another factor that sets Fox Mountain Guides training courses apart from the rest.

Our courses are taught by professional, credentialed instructor who hold AMGA Certification. These instructors have worked as a team to create and continually improve our course curriculum to ensure you will be gaining the most up to date information out there. Our goal is to empower you with the skills and knowledge to climb safely and efficiently whenever you are on the rock.
