Billy instructed at Rock Climbing Camps in the Northern NJ area for 4 years before moving to North Carolina to go to school at Warren Wilson College. He has taught climbing in the Southeast for various organizations including Blue Star Camps before working for Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School.

He is a current AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructor and completed the AMGA Rock Instructor Course in 2008, but is not yet an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor. He holds a B.A. in Outdoor Leadership and a B.A. in Environmental Education from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC and is a Wilderness First Responder.
