Single Pitch Rescue

Intermediate Level Course

This course covers the skills every climber that ties into a rope should know and focuses on self rescue in the single pitch environment. The course emphasizes reducing the risks in the first place, teaching new, clever systems and tricks to stay safe and reduce the chance of ever having to use the rescue skills you will learn on the course.

We have distilled the information taught on previous courses, and looked in to more realistic situations for self rescue. We will teach you the best, most efficient systems and won't flood you with over complicated useless systems. All these skills are useful in everyday climbing and its amazing how much speed and efficiency is gained from having these skills “dialed”. Self rescue is a topic that all climbers should be skilled in for themselves and the people they climb with.

Topics covered:

bulletProblem avoidance, keeping safe in the first place
bulletSimple load transfers.
bulletSecond rescues, (raises, lowers and counterbalanced lowers).
bulletSIMPLE raising systems, detailed look at the physics behind raising systems, mechanical advantage raises and assisted raises (2:1, 2:1 assisted, 3:1, 3:1 assisted).
bulletAscending a fixed and counterbalanced rope.
bulletUsing self locking plaquete devices in self rescue (Petzl Reverso, B52, ATC Guide, etc)

Applicants must have taken our Foundation Level Courses or can top rope 5.6 climbs, rappel and have some experience placing artificial gear and building anchors.
