Fox Mountain Guides offers rock climbing day trips throughout Western North Carolina and the Southeast. These are custom trips that cater to everyone from beginner climbers trying rock climbing for the first time to intermediate and advanced climbers. Additionally, we provide sequential rock climbing courses, training for military groups, and merit badge courses for scout troops. We provide all necessary climbing equipment. Please note that children must be at least six years old to attend climbing trips.
Single Pitch Climbing Trips
Single pitch climbing is great for beginner to expert climbers alike. These are climbs that are no more than than a half rope’s length tall (30 m/100 ft). The climber is tied in to a rope that passes through an anchor at the top of the route. The other end of the rope is attached to the belayer.
Single pitch climbs vary in difficulty. Whether you are completely new to climbing, climb in a gym but have never experienced climbing on real rock, or are a more experienced outdoor climber who wants a day of top-roping, our instructors will set up climbs appropriate for your ability level.
Time frame:
Can be a Half Day (4 hours) or a Full Day (8 hours),
With the exception of two hour lessons at Chimney Rock Park, all guided day trips are “one on one” with a guide unless you organize to bring friends or family with you.
Multi Pitch Climbing Trips
Multipitch rock climbing is for people who have some previous climbing experience, preferably outdoors. In multipitch climbing, you will be climbing from the bottom of the mountain to the top in multiple pitches, so plan on being off the ground for several hours. Multipitch climbing is great for someone who wants the full rock climbing experience, including beautiful views, challenging climbing, and a sense of adventure.
All guided trips are “one on one” with a guide unless you organize to bring friends or family with you. Multi-pitch guiding has a ratio limit of three participants to one guide. For more than three people, we can arrange additional guides for your party.

Can be a Half Day (4 hours) or Full Day (8 hours).
Private Instruction
Private instruction is for those who have previous climbing experience and want to work on specific skills like learning to lead climb, practicing self-rescue, or climbing movement skills. All private instruction days are 8 hours in duration.
Rock Climbing at Chimney Rock State Park
Our two hour group lesson is unique to Chimney Rock. These lessons run in the morning and afternoon, and are ideal for people who want to try climbing. Classes are open enrollment for people 6 years and up. They have a maximum size of 6 participants and are priced based on the number of participants in the lesson. For one person in the lesson it is $145, two people is $100 each and 3 or more in the lesson is $75 each. Guests must separately pay admission to Chimney Rock State Park.
